Born in Queens, New York - Los Angeles based artist, writer, director Vincent Sabella is not a product of art or film school or formal training of any kind, which speaks directly to the expansive and ambitious nature of his self-learned approach as an artist and now, as a filmmaker. His paintings - layered with a subtext of ironic, disturbing, graphic, humorous, and beautiful imagery, caught the attention of the L.A. art world after debuting his very first and wildly popular collection in 2011, "Bear on A Hot Tin Roof" - a 26-piece, stretched canvas collection inspired by the iconic film, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. From 2011 through early 2013, Sabella created 4 collections comprised of nearly 60 paintings, many of which have been on exhibit in some of Los Angeles's most respected galleries including: Andrew Shire, Edgar Varella, OCCCA and the Shoshana Wayne Gallery - to name a few. His paintings have also been featured in several independent films, the HGTV show, "The Outdoor Room" and have garnished coverage and reviews in multiple publications, including LA Canvas, Artweek LA and The Huffington Post. As a visual thinker it was a natural progression for Vincent to venture into filmmaking. His first short film, "Note" centers around a teenage boy (August Roads MTV's "Faking It") suffering from undiagnosed schizophrenia, who decides to kill himself one night while his Mom is on a date but not before leaving behind a video diary on how to write the perfect suicide note. The film qualified for the 2014 Oscar Short Film submission and opened the Gasparilla International Film Festival and was nominated for Grand Jury Award for Filmmaking. His second short film, "Anonymous", based on the short story, "Crack, It Gives You Wings" follows the life of a young man (Grant Harvey "The Secret Life of the American Teenager") who was born and raised in a crack house. The film awarded him a Best Director win for a Featurette, a Best Featurette nomination, 5 Official Selections and qualified for the 2015 Oscar Short Film submissions. Sabella completed his 3rd award winning, short film, "Imagination of Young", in April of 2015. The film has received multiple nominations, including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor in a short film from the Idyllwild International Festival of Film. He also won Best Short Film from the Best Shorts Competition. In addition, his lead actor was nominated for Best Performance in a Short Film by the 37th Annual Young Artist Awards, which aired on PBS in March 2016. Vincent has several feature scripts in development, however "Elizabeth Blue" will mark his feature film debut. The film opens in a limited theatrical release on September 22nd, 2017.
